Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
The short version. DropLane has no account system and no server of its own. Your drives, earnings and expenses are stored on your iPhone. We cannot see them, because there is nowhere for them to go.
What DropLane records
To do its job the app records, on your device:
- Your drives — start and end time, distance, and the route as a series of location points.
- Place names for the start and end of a drive, such as a postcode.
- What you type in — earnings, expenses, fuel prices, vehicle details, receipt photos.
- Your settings, including the home location you set for end-of-day summaries.
Where it is kept
On your iPhone. If you are signed in to iCloud and leave it switched on, the same records sync to your own private iCloud account so they survive a lost or replaced phone. That is Apple's storage, tied to your Apple Account — not ours, and not shared with us.
What leaves your device — and it is only these two things
We would rather tell you plainly than claim nothing ever leaves the phone, because two things do, and both go to Apple rather than to us:
- Looking up place names. When a drive finishes, the app asks Apple's geocoding service what the start and end coordinates are called, so your trip can read "TQ1 4FF" instead of a pair of numbers. Those coordinates go to Apple for that lookup. Apple's handling of them is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.
- Drawing maps. Map tiles for the route views come from Apple Maps as you look at them.
There is no other network activity in DropLane. The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash-reporting service, and no third-party code libraries of any kind.
What we never do
- We do not ask you to create an account, and there is no login.
- We do not sell, share or transmit your location history, earnings or expenses to anyone.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, and the app never asks to track you across other apps.
- We do not use cookies or trackers on this website.
Permissions, and why each one is asked for
Location — "Always"
This is what makes automatic recording possible. Without background location, drives would only record while the app is open on screen, which defeats the point. Your location history stays on the device.
Motion & Fitness
Used to tell driving from walking, so a walk to the front door is not recorded as a trip and the GPS is not left running when you are not driving. It saves battery and improves accuracy.
Camera
Only used if you choose to photograph a receipt for an expense. Photos are stored with that expense on your device.
Notifications
Used for drive-saved reminders and the end-of-day summary. All notifications are generated on your phone; nothing is sent through a remote server.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details, name or billing address. We receive only the anonymous sales reports Apple provides to every developer.
Children
DropLane is a tool for working drivers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone, of any age.
Your data is yours
You can delete any drive, earning or expense inside the app at any time. Deleting the app removes its data from your phone. If you use iCloud sync, deleting the app's data in iCloud is done through iPhone Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf, and no request you need to send us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the updated version appears here.
