Terms of Use
Last updated: 22 August 2026
These terms cover the DropLane iPhone app and this website. Using either means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
What DropLane is
DropLane records your drives automatically, keeps a note of what you earned and spent, and produces a mileage summary you can hand to an accountant or use when filing a tax return.
It is a record-keeping tool, not tax advice. The mileage rates built into the app are our best reading of published government rates at the date shown next to each one, and every one of them can be edited. Rates change, and eligibility rules differ by country and by circumstance — several countries, for instance, do not let a self-employed driver use a per-kilometre rate at all. What you put on your tax return is your responsibility, and an accountant is worth more than an app. We are not liable for tax owed, penalties or interest arising from figures produced by DropLane.
What we can and can't promise about accuracy
DropLane measures distance from your phone's location readings. GPS is very good, but it is not perfect: tunnels, multi-storey car parks, dense city centres, a phone left at home, a battery that dies mid-shift, or iOS deciding to be frugal with background activity can all cost a drive or part of one.
The app is built to lose as little as possible, but you should check your records rather than assume they are complete, especially over a tax year. You can add or edit a drive by hand at any time.
Subscription, trial and renewal
- DropLane Pro is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription through the App Store, in your local currency.
- New users get a free trial. Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends, the trial rolls into a paid subscription.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Your Apple Account is charged within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- Cancel any time in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the subscription runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases, though we are happy to help you make the case.
Your data
Your drives, earnings and expenses are stored on your device, and in your own iCloud if you enable it. We have no server and no copy. That means we cannot recover your records if you lose your phone and had iCloud switched off — see the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Fair use
Don't use DropLane for anything unlawful, don't try to reverse-engineer or resell it, and don't present its output as something it isn't — for example, as a certified or officially approved logbook. In several countries a GPS-only record is not the same thing as a formally compliant vehicle logbook, and we make no claim that it is.
Availability
DropLane is a small independent app. We aim to keep it working and current, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service, and features may change as the app develops or as Apple changes what apps are allowed to do.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, DropLane is provided as it is, and our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the subscription in the twelve months before a claim. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud — which the law does not allow us to limit anyway. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protections of your own country's law.
Changes
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting the new version.
